BUILDING PERMITS
A building permit is your formal permission from your city of municipality to start construction, demolition, or renovation on your property. Before beginning ay renovations, someone on the staff of your local government agency must review your plans to ensure compliance with local zoning, bylaws, and other applicable regulations.
A building permit is required to :
* Construct a new building
* make any additions to an existing building
*Renovate, repair or add to a building
*Demolish or remove all or a portion of a building
* Change a building’s use
* Install, change, or remove partitions/ load bearing walls
* Make new openings for, or change the size of, doors and windows
* Build a garage, balcony or deck
* Excavate a basement or construct a foundation
* Install or modify heating, plumbing or air-conditioning systems
* Install or reconstruct chimneys or fireplaces
*Install an accessory structure larger than 108 square feet in area
* Build a deck more than 24” above ground
* Install a wood burning stove/fireplace
* Construct a basement entrance or a second suite
* Alter or install new plumbing
